Review from July 27, 2013

We arrived at the Sugar Bay prepared for a 4 night stay while in St Thomas on a Mission Trip. The lobby was exquisite, the service was good at check in, and the room was up to par. I really can’t think of anything negative to say and for the price that we paid for our room with a great view, I was very pleased. I would 100% consider it to be an easy 3.5 star and teetering on a 4star resort.

Review from August 1, 2013

The staff was so friendly especially the girl who checked us in, our waiters, we enjoyed talking with them, the room was clean and nice and the view was BEAUTIFUL from our balcony. We enjoyed the food and variety they offered. We loved the beach and pool area. We had fun snorkeling and kayaking right at our beach. We went for fun, sun, relaxation, scenery and got it all! Thank you Sugar Bay.

Passport Information

Citizens of the U.S. or its territories (such as Puerto Rico) do not need a passport to travel to St. Thomas or the other islands within the U.S. Virgin Islands (St. Croix and St. John). You do not need a passport or birth certificate when departing from your local airport to St. Thomas, but you do need some form of identifications when leaving the U.S. Virgin Islands by airplane.

Usually just two forms of identification such as your drivers license and birth certificate are sufficient. Providing both forms of identification will make leaving for your flight on time a much more simple process.

St. Thomas is an unincorporated territory of the United States, which means that U.S. citizens are free to travel to St. Thomas without a passport. This makes going on a vacation to St. Thomas much easier and a much more carefree vacation.

If you don’t currently have a passport, then the costs to get one might be too high for you, or you might be on a time crunch and unable to get on. With flying to St. Thomas, you won’t have to wait around for your passport to arrive in your mailbox – because you don’t need one!

However, bringing a passport might be a good idea as well. You can then island hop if you choose to do so. Also, travelers returning to the U.S. by another country will need to carry a passport to reenter the United States, so even though a passport is not required for U.S. citizens entering St. Thomas, it might still be a good idea to bring one with you.

“I stayed there for 3 nights… The manager there, Cavelle Francis made me think differently. She is the warmest person I ever met. I had some issues and she took care of it instantly. Everyone else was nice but she showed extraordinary interest in what she does. This woman would be the reason for me to visit again. As a manager, I’m sure she’s an asset to the company. I would definitely come back! “

“Chavelle, Manager @ Mangrove Restaurant was the absolute best. Very friendly, helpful and provided top-notch quality customer service.

Tamika, bar tender @ the Turtle Bar, the best bar tender, hands-down! She greeted us with a smile every day. I wish them both the absolute best!

Options: the all-inclusive is the only way to go; drinks are included. There are several restaurants onsite. The food was good and plentiful. You will not be disappointed.

Entertainment: all day and night.

Rooms: request an un-obstructed ocean view room on the outer-ring.

Pack bug spray and itch-cream. You are going to an Island after all.”

Review from May, 2013

“I just got back from my stay at the Sugar Bay spa and Resort after traveling their with my mom for a mother’s day gift…  The views are absolutely the best overlooking the mountains and the ocean. Hotel rooms were clean and large with their own balcony to sit out on. The hotel itself has its own private beach which is a great spot. Go for the all inclusive it is worth it. The hotel is located five minutes from Sapphire Beach and Coki Beach and is only fifteen minutes away from shopping in downtown. They have a taxi board outside the front so they can call a cab for you to go anywhere at any time. Loved this resort and will definitely be going back soon.”

Review from May, 2013

“First off, I have read reviews from many resort on St Thomas. I decided to pick this resort because of the all-inclusive and every resort has positive and negative. I booked my trip through cheapcarribean and my total cost for 5 days 4 nights all-inclusive, air fair was about $2100 for two people and ocean view room.

Overall, the resort was better than expected. Please read the rest of my review and understand that I am not bias nor am I paid by the resort to write this. The resort is located by the ocean, so we have to understand wear and tear from the wind salt and heat.

I rented a car, cost me 220 for the whole trip. If you travel by taxi, they charge per person, so price may come out to be the same. However, I feel more comfortable driving and the luxury of driving anywhere I want at anytime of the day. The roads are smaller, you drive on the left side and there are a lot of hills. At night, it does get a bit difficult to drive so be careful.”

“My wife and I stayed at Sugar Bay Resort in May 2013 and had a great experience. The All-Inclusive plan was a great deal for us. The beach and pool were terrific and the bar service was excellent. The pool’s swim-up bar was lots of fun, and Carolyn and Ross were great bartenders. ”

Review from May, 2013

“Just returned from 9 day stay at Sugar Bay and is was great. This was our fifth trip to the resort and as always a great experience. The staff is great and friendly and go out of their way to make our stay memoriable. Food and drinks are great. Beach is great, it is a bit rocky but with water shoes its no problem. Snorkeling is great at the resort and all the views are great no matter where you are at on the resort. Cant wait to come back next year.”

Review from May, 2013

“My girlfriend and I stayed at this resort once again. So from the start. We arrived 2 hours before check in. Danielle at the front desk gave us our all inclusive wrist bands and said, “your welcome to wait, or you can go have lunch, drinks, or whatever you please. It shouldnt be more than 15 minutes”. By the time we had a quick lunch and a drink at the turtle rock by the pool our room was ready. You cant ask for more than that! The rooms are gorgeous. The view is breath taking over looking St John. I never experienced any rudeness from staff our entire visit. Or any other visit for that matter. The breakfast buffet is great. They have an omelet bar as well. The buffet consist of anything and everything you could possibly want for breakfast. Fresh fruit, eggs, sausage, potatoes, bagels, pancakes, waffles….. It starts the day in paradise off very well. The pool and pool bar are amazing. Carolyn is the best! She even remembered us from last time! The lunch spots by the pool in my opinion hit the spot after being in the sun and drinking. Burgers of all kinds, sandwiches, salads… Its great. For dinner Blue Currents is awesome. I had one of the best steaks Ive ever eaten there. We met a couple our age from Illinois and they actually had the steak two nights it was so good! Also, Sugar Bay is located minutes away from Red Hook and the ferry to St John. The bottom line is, for the price you pay to stay at Sugar Bay, eat all you want, drink all you want, have as much fun as you want. You cant go wrong.”
